The American Crocodile is a large North-South American reptile. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.

Description[]

The American crocodile is a neotropical species of crocodilian and the most widespread of the four true crocodile species found in the Americas. Populations range from Florida, United States and Mexico down to Peru and Venezuela. It is one of the largest species of crocodiles - males typically reach lengths of 4.1m (13.5ft) with females being smaller, but the largest known individual was 6.1m (20ft) in length and weighed 907kg (2000lbs).

The American crocodile lives in a variety of habitats, including brackish lakes, mangrove swamps and lagoons. It is notably one of only two species of crocodilian, the other being the larger Saltwater Crocodile, to thrive in saltwater habitats and are often found resting on beaches or swimming between islands. Like most crocodilians, the American crocodile is an apex predator and will eat any aquatic or terrestrial animal they can catch, including fish, birds and small mammals. Although they have no natural predators, they may compete with other crocodilians such as the American alligator.
