The Beluga is a medium-sized Arctic cetacean. It is an adoptable animal in all three Wildlife Park games.

Description[]

The Beluga, also known as the white whale due to its colouration, is one of two members of the family Monodontidae, along with the narwhal, and the only member of the genus Delphinapterus. This marine mammal is commonly referred to as the sea canary due to its high-pitched twitter.

Beluga Whales live in the Arctic Ocean, around North America, Russia, Greenland. They are in the Near Threatened category at around a population of 150,000. They weigh 1,600kg (3,500lb) and their size is between a dolphin and a whale, up to 5.5m (18ft). Beluga whales can dive 700m (2,300ft) below surface level. Whale hunting has been regulated since 1973, though Native Inuit people can still hunt them.

Belugas are adapted to Arctic environemnts, they have no dorsal fins and adults are all white in colour. The head of the animal has an organ called a melon which is an echolocation organ. Large percentage of the animal body is blubber. They form 10 animal groups. In the summer they can gather in hundreds or even thousands in shallow coast areas.
