The Bluefin Tuna, identified as the Red Tuna in Wildlife Park 2, is a large Atlantic bony fish. It is an adoptable animal in both Wildlife Park 2 and Wildlife Park 3.
Description[]
The bluefin tuna is the largest species of tuna and one of the largest fish of the "perciformes" order. Mature specimens typically weigh up to 250kg (551lb), but the largest individuals have been known to weigh 679kg (1497lb). Tuna are believed to mature very quickly, reaching adult size within 15 years. It is believed that tuna can live for 50 years in the wild.
The bluefin tuna is an apex predator, primarily hunting small fish such as herring and diving to depths of over 1000m to find food. They are incredibly fast and efficient swimmers, keeping their bodies straight whilst their tails propel them through the water. This, combined with a very efficient circulatory system, allows them to keep up with and catch their prey. Tuna will also team up with other predators, such as seals, dolphins and sharks, to corral schools of fish together to make them easier to catch. Like many large fish, the Bluefin Tuna is severely threatened by overfishing.
