Wildlife Park 2[]

Latin name: Oryctolagus Cuniculus. Bunnies are a species of rabbit and mammals. They are, by the way, not related to rodents. In the past, wild bunnies probably only existed on the Iberian Peninsula, namely in Spain, Portugal and Northwest Africa. They were early domesticated by humans and taken to the British Isles, as well as to Ireland, Sweden and the Canary Isles. Nowadays, they can be found all around the world, because European settlers who kept them as pets took them with them and let them free: they are living in Australia and New Zealand as well as in South America. A male rabbit is called buck and a female rabbit is called doe. Males and females can hardly be distinguished. Hares and arctic hares are closely related to bunnies. Apart from the wild rabbit, there are now approximately 100 different rabbit breeds, which are breed by humans and kept as pets. The longhaired angora rabbits are particularly popular because of their meat, but also because of their fur and wool. Bunnies prefer dry habitats with sandy and loamy soil or soil consisting of rock fragments (lithosols). They can mainly be found in grass-steppes, parks and thin forests. However, nowadays they are also feeling quite comfortable in fields and gardens. Rabbits get as old as ten, sometimes even twelve years. Rabbits are comparatively small. They only measure between 34 and 45 centimetres from head to tail, are 16 to 18 centimetres in body height and weigh between one and three kilograms. The ears are between 6 and 7.5 centimetres long and are always erect. The black top edge of the ear is characteristic for rabbits. Their four to eight centimetre long tail looks like a wool tuft. It is dark on top and white on the underside. A rabbit’s fur can be beige, brown, grey, black or white. Bunnies have one distinctive feature: their incisors keep growing all their life.

The European Rabbit is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 2 and is available in the base game. Its daily need and enrichment necessities include grass and water. They prefer having a minimum herd of 3, with 30 as the maximum number of herd.
