The Collared Peccary is a mid-sized American ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.

Description[]

The collared peccary, or Javelina, is the most common and widespread of three peccary species. Closely resembling their relatives, the pigs, peccaries are short, stocky animals with a cartilaginous disc on the end of their snouts, which are used for digging. The collared peccary stands 61cm (24in) at the shoulder and weighs up to 27kg (60lb). Like all peccaries, it features short tusks which are used for defense.

The collared peccary is a highly-adaptable animal, found in a variety of habitats from the deserts of the South-Western United States to the sub-tropical grasslands of northern Argentina. It is a social animal, living in groups of up to 50. Primarily diurnal, the collared peccary is largely herbivorous, feeding on plants and digging for roots and tubers, but will also eat small animals if given the chance. Predators include large cats and canids, although peccaries will defend themselves if threatened.
