Elasmotherium is a large prehistoric rhinoceros from Eurasia. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.
Description[]
Elasmotherium is an extinct genus of rhinoceros that lived during the Pliocene and Pleistocene, with four species being recognised. The largest species could reach heights of up to 2m (6.7ft) at the shoulder, making them as large as the mammoths they shared their habitat with and larger than modern day rhinos. Aside from its size, the most distinguishing feature of Elasmotherium was the large horn that grew from its forehead. This horn, as in modern rhinos, was made of keratin and has given Elasmotherium the nickname of "The Siberian Unicorn".
Elasmotherium lived in Europe and Asia, where it was adapted to living on the "mammoth steppes". Studies on its head and continually-growing molars suggest it was a habitual grazer, feeding on low-lying grass. Cave paintings interpreted as Elasmotherium suggest it lived alongside early humans, although it is unclear whether they were hunted. Like many other animals of its time, Elasmotherium is believed to have gone extinct due to extreme changes in climate.
Wildlife Park 3[]
Elasmotherium is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3 and is available in the base game. Notably, each adopted individual comes with a distinct horn that is randomized: short, severed, long, medium, double or bent (tip of the horn pointing outwards). Similar to the Black Rhinoceros, their daily food and enrichment necessities include leaves, grass, water, scratching and wallowing (mud). They can live individually, with 8 as the maximum number of herds.
