The European River Otter, also known as the Eurasian Otter, is a small Eurasian mustelid. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park.
Description[]
The European River Otter, also known as the Eurasian Otter, is the most widely spread member of the otter family. It is most common in Europe, but can also be found across parts of Asia and into Northern Africa. Like all otters, it is well adapted for life in water, with dense bones reducing its buoyancy while swimming. It can weigh up to 12kg (26lb), with some large males being heavier.
Despite its name, and although it is most common around freshwater habitats such as ponds and rivers, the European River Otter is also a coastal animal and will swim in the sea to hunt for food. Like all otters, its diet consists mainly of fish and it is strongly territorial. Although it is widespread and numbers are recovering in many areas, it is endangered in some parts of its range, with threats including hunting, habitat loss and pollution.
Wildlife Park[]
The European River Otter is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park. It was added as part of the Wild Creatures expansion pack.
