The Giant Frogfish is a small bony fish. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.

Description[]

Frogfish are members of the anglerfish family, a group of fish that primarily hunt by using a modified fin, known as a illicium, to lure smaller fish towards them, before sucking them into their large mouths. Frogfish can be identified by their short, stocky bodies that are typically covered in spinules. These act as camouflage, hiding the frogfish from predators and prey. The largest species can grow up to 38cm (14.96in) in length.

Frogfish are found in tropical waters throughout the world, generally on the ocean floor close to rock or coral reefs. As well as the spinules, frogfish may also change colour in order to blend in with their surroundings. As a result, they rarely move and when they do, they do so very slowly, preferring to use their pectoral fins to "walk" across the ocean floor rather than swimming. As well as other fish, frogfish feed on crustaceans and have also been known to eat smaller members of their own kind.
