The Giant Squid is a large marine cephalopod. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 2.
Description[]
The giant squid represents one of the largest invertebrates ever known. Females are estimated to weigh up to 275kg (606lb), with males being smaller. Like all squid, it possesses eight arms and two long tentacles, which form the majority of its size. Large individuals are believed to grow up to 13m (43ft) long, with its mantle alone reaching 2m (6.7ft). Some giant squid have been claimed to reach lengths of 20m (66ft) or more, but there is no scientific evidence of this.
Little is known about the giant squid, in part due to its deep-ocean habitat. A live specimen was not observed until the year 2004 and most information scientists had to go on was through specimens washed up on coastlines. What is known is that the giant squid preys on fish and other squid, catching them in its long tentacles before cutting the prey apart with its beak. The giant squid's only known predator is the Sperm Whale, with many whales sporting scars on their bodies which are believed to have been inflicted by struggling giant squid.
Wildlife Park 2[]
“ | Latin name: Architeuthis. Giant squids are cephalopods. They have eight arms and two tentacles located around their mouth. Though these animals live in all seas, they are frequently caught off the coasts of Norway, Great Britain, Newfoundland, Japan, Australia, New Zealand as well as South Africa. They are believed to live at a depth of at least 300 metres. Therefore it wasn’t until the introduction of deep-sea fishing and the use of trawls that these animals were caught more frequently. Sucker scars on the skin of sperm whales and remains of giant squids found in the sperm whale stomachs suggest that the sperm whale is the only natural predator of giant squids. Very little is known about their diet. Stomach dissections primarily revealed remains of squids and fish. Little is known about their diet, but even less is known about the reproductive cycle. During mating, the male apparently injects spermatophores underneath the skin of the female. One has found several females with spermatophores. However, it is still not known how the eggs get fertilized. | ” |
The giant squid is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 2 and is available in the base game. Its daily need and enrichment necessities include fish, swimming and diving. They can live individually, with 10 as the maximum number of herd.
