“ | Latin name: Capra. Goats can be found anywhere in the world. Along with dogs and sheep, goats are the oldest domesticated animals. Goats were already domesticated by people in the Middle East and Levant 10,000 years ago. One of the modern goat’s ancestors is the Bezoar goat: this goat can still be found in the wild on Crete and other Greek isles as well as in the Middle East and Asia Minor. Goats are recognizable at a glance, though they can look quite different. They can erect their small tail. Males and females both have horns. Some goats have short horns bent backwards, while others have huge corkscrew like horns. To prevent injuries, the horns of domesticated goats are sometime removed after birth. Male goats are called bucks; females are called she-goat or nanny-goat. Young goats are called kids or goatlings. Goats can weigh up to 80 kilograms and reach a body height of 1 meter and a body length between 1.2 and 1.6 metres. They are ruminants and belong to the family of bovids. They reach an average age of 10 to 15 years, but some even get as old as 20 years. Goats come in many colours: solid black and white, grey and brown. However, they can also have different combinations of colours. | ” |
