The Goliath Grouper, more accurately the Atlantic Goliath Grouper, is a large Atlantic bony fish. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.
Description[]
The Goliath grouper is the largest of all the groupers, a family of large saltwater fish identified by their large size, stout bodies and large mouths. Individuals have measured up to 2.5m (8.2ft) in length and may weigh up to 360kg (790lbs). Although not built for long distance or fast swimming, Goliath groupers are formidable predators and will hunt crustaceans, octopuses and fish, including young sharks and barracudas. They have also been reported to attack humans.
The Goliath grouper is found across the tropical regions of the Atlantic Ocean, primarily around coral reefs. Most species of grouper are all born female with some individuals changing sex to become male, and it is possible that the Goliath grouper also follows this pattern. Popular among fishermen, the Goliath grouper's numbers have declined rapidly, although a ban on mass harvesting has helped their numbers recover.
