The Gorilla, more specifically the Western Gorilla, is a large African primate. It is an adoptable animal in all three Wildlife Park games.
Description[]
The Gorilla is the world's largest primate, although Western Gorillas tend to be smaller than their Eastern relatives. A fully-grown dominant male, or "silverback" after the grey colouration on his back and rump, can stand up to 1.8m (5ft 11in) tall and weigh up to 270kg (600lbs), although 140kg (310lbs) is a more common weight. Females are smaller and more lightly built than males. The gorilla is extremely strong and is believed to be capable of lifting ten times its body weight. Silverbacks are known to aggresively defend their groups against rivals and predators such as leopards, but gorillas are typically peaceful animals that spend much of their day eating.
Gorillas live in the rainforests of central Africa in large family groups, travelling large distances in search of food. They are primarily herbivorous and eat a wide range of plant material, but favour fruit when it is available and will occasionally eat ants or termites. When not feeding, gorillas will often rest, with individuals grooming and playing together. Although the Western Gorilla is the most common species of gorilla, all gorillas are Critically Endangered due to habitat loss and hunting.
