The Greater Cormorant, referred as black cormorant in-game, is a mid-sized aquatic bird with a global population. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.
Description[]
The greater cormorant is one of the largest members of the cormorant family of seabirds. Sizes vary by population, but the largest individuals can weigh up to 5.3kg (11.11lbs), with males being larger than females. It can be distinguished by the white patches on its throat and thighs during the breeding season. The greater cormorant has a wide range, with populations found across Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia, with a breeding population also found on the Atlantic coast of North America.
The greater cormorant is always found near water, whether it be the sea or freshwater rivers and lakes. Like all cormorants, it preys on fish, which it catches by diving underwater. Dives can last for 28 seconds at a time and a cormorant can reach depths of up to 5.8m (19ft). The greater cormorant nests in colonies, typically in trees or on clifftops, and pairs return to the same nest site every year. In some Asian communities, trained cormorants are used by fishermen to catch large fish.
