The Greater Kudu is a mid-sized African ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.
Description[]
The greater kudu is one of the world's largest species of antelope. Possessing a narrow body with long, thin legs, an adult male can weigh up to 270kg (600lbs) and reach a shoulder height of 160cm (63in). Males also possess large, twisted horns and a goat-like beard; indeed, the kudu's latin name roughly translates to "Goat-Deer with Twisted Horns". Females are smaller and lack both horns and beards.
The greater kudu is native to much of eastern and southern Africa and lives in small herds of up to 20, although ten is more common. Although they require continual access to water, they tend to avoid open plains, as this would make them vulnerable to predators. Instead, they live in mixed scrub woodlands, feeding primarily leaves and grass, although they will also eat roots and fruit. Although a popular target for hunters, the greater kudu is not considered threatened in the wild.
