The Manta Ray, or Giant Oceanic Manta Ray is a large cartilaginous fish. It is an adoptable animal in all three Wildlife Park games.
Description[]
The Manta Ray is the largest species of ray, with a width of up to 7m (23ft) and a weight of up to 1300kg (3000lbs). Like other rays, Manta Rays have a skeleton made out of cartilage, like their close relatives, sharks. Unlike most other rays, which live on the sea floor, manta rays are pelagic, migrating across the open ocean in search of zooplankton and small fish, which by catch by filter feeding. A manta ray can eat 13% of its body weight each week.
Manta Rays are found in temperate, subtropical and tropical waters worldwide, but they will also visit coral reef "cleaning stations" to have parasites removed by cleaner fish and shrimps. They have been known to breach, much like whales, although the exact reason for this is unclear. Manta Rays are classed as Vulnerable and have been fully protected since 2011.

Wildlife Park 2[]
“ | Latin name: Manta Birostris. Many myths exist about the devil ray or giant manta. The name devil ray probably stems from its extraordinary appearance. The giant manta is, however, absolutely innocuous to humans. Any contrary horror stories are cock-and-bull-stories. A crucial difference between mantas and rays is their way of movement. They swim by using their fins like wings. Other rays swim by using wave-like movements. There is also a difference in diet between giant mantas and other ray species. The head fins and the devil’s horns direct the water into their mouth, where their gill rakers filter out plankton and small fish. Plankton and small fish are also their main source of diet. | ” |
