The Mountain Goat, also known as the Rocky Mountain Goat, is a mid-sized North American ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 2 and Wildlife Park 3.
Description[]
The Rocky Mountain goat is a bovid ungulate native to the mountainous ranges of Western North America. Despite its name, it is not a true goat, although it is closely related. It is a stocky animal, with males reaching a meter high at the shoulder. Females are smaller, but both sexes short tails, long black horns and a double-layered woolly coat, which protects it from the cold elements. Like all goat-like animals, they are herbivorous, spending most of their time grazing.
Native to western regions of the United States (including Alaska) and Canada, the mountain goat is well adapted for life at high altitude. Its cloven hooves can spread apart when jumping across rocky slopes, with sharp dewclaws to keep it slipping and inner pads to provide traction. This allows the Mountain goat to climb almost vertical slopes. Its thick coat protects it from cold temperatures and strong winds, especially in the winter. Mountain goats have been found at an elevation of over 4000m (13000ft).
Wildlife Park 2[]
