The Ocelot is a mid-sized American felid. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.

Description[]

The ocelot is the largest member of the cat genus Leopardus, a group of small-to-medium-sized felids identifiable by their spotted coats and small, rounded ears. A large ocelot can have a body length of 100cm (39.4in), in addition to a 45cm (17.7in) long tail, and weigh up to 15.5kg ((34.2lbs), with males being larger than females. It closely resembles its close relative, the Margay, but is much larger and its spotted markings are more blotched in appearance.

The ocelot is found across the Americas, ranging from as far north as the southwestern United States to as far south as northern Argentina. Across its range, it lives in tropical rainforests, swamps and savannah grasslands. Resting in trees by day, it is a nocturnal hunter, preying on various small animals, including rodents, birds and fish. In some regions, ocelots show a preference to certain food items such as monkeys or reptiles. Ocelots are solitary animals and have been reported fighting to the death to defend their territory.
