Pachycephalosaurus is a medium-sized North American dinosaur. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 2 and Wildlife Park 3.
Description[]
Pachycephalosaurus (thick-headed lizard) is the largest member of the pachycephalosaurs, a group of small to mid-sized bipedal dinosaurs primarily identified by their thick skulls. Pachycephalosaurus is believed to have grown up to 4.5m (14.8ft) in length and weighed up to 450kg (990lb). No complete skeleton has ever been found, but based on closely related pachycephalosaurs, it probably had a bulky body, long back legs and a short, thick neck. It is speculated to have been omnivorous, eating plants and small animals such as insects or lizards.
The skull of Pachycephalosaurus was topped with a 25cm (10in) thick bony dome, with a ring of short, blunt spikes around the back. It is commonly believed that Pachycephalosaurus would have used this dome as a means of inttra-species combat, with individuals headbutting each other like modern day sheep and goats. Scientists have suggested that Stygimoloch and Dracorex, two similar dinosaurs with smaller domes and larger spikes, are in fact younger specimens of Pachycephalosaurus - this suggests that the dome grew throughout the animal's life. Native to what is now North America, Pachycephalosaurus was one of the last known non-avian dinosaurs before the Cretaceous-Paleogene extinction event.
