The Red River Hog is a mid-sized African ungulate. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 3.
Description[]
The red river hog is a wild member of the pig family identifiable by its striking orange fur and long, tufted ears. Adults can weigh up to 115kg (254lbs) and reach a height of 80cm (31in). Males are slightly larger than females and have distinctive protuberances on their snouts. Uniquely amongst African pigs, the red river hog's body is completely covered in fur.
The red river hog is native to the rainforests of western and central Africa, with a preference for swamps and marshes. Primarily nocturnal, it lives in small groups lead by an adult male, who will defend his females from predators such as the Leopard. Like all pigs, the red river hog is omnivorous with a preference for roots and tubers, which it uncovers using its large snout. Females typically produce three to four piglets, which can live for up to 15 years in the wild.
