The Whitetip Reef Shark is a medium-sized cartilaginous fish. It is an adoptable animal in Wildlife Park 2 and Wildlife Park 3.
Description[]
The whitetip reef shark is a species of requiem shark, a family of sharks that also includes the Blacktip Reef Shark. It is comparatively small for a shark, typically reaching lengths of 1.6m (5.2ft), and can be identified by its short and broad head, skin flaps around its nostrils and the characteristic white tips on its dorsal and caudal fins. It is found in coral reefs across the Indo-Pacific ocean region and represents one of the most commonly sighted sharks of the region.
A relatively shallow-living species, the whitetip reef shark is primarily nocturnal, where it hunts for small bony fish and invertebrates such as crabs. During the day, it will often rest in caves and is one of the few requiem sharks that does not have to keep swimming in order to breathe. Females will give birth to up to six live young, or pups, although two or three is more common. Whitetip reef sharks are rarely aggressive towards humans and, like many sharks, is under threat from hunting.
